Open meeting to receive the report of the Board of Deputies Commission on Racial Inclusivity
10th May 2021 @ 8:00 pm
Monday 10 May, 8pm in our regular NLS Zoom Room
We will all have been affected by tales of racial exclusion, and far worse, both in our most immediate Jewish community and more broadly. Responding to the racist murder of George Floyd in May 2020, the Board of Deputies tasked a Commission to look at how the British Jewish community could do better. Their report has just been published and is available here
At New London our hearts and our religious principles motivate us to be appalled at racism and to seek to oppose it at every level. I believe that New London is a welcoming community, most of the time. But the systemic nature of these challenges means that we, like every other part of society, have much still to do.
In the course of this meeting, we will have an opportunity to hear about the report of the commission and the recommendations applicable to us. We will ensure space is made for black members and members of colour to share their own perspectives. And we will formerly, as a community, receive the report and commend relevant recommendations to Council for adoption. Rabbi Natasha will share a Devar Torah on the issue of racism and inclusion.
I do hope members will take this important opportunity to join us as we attempt to meet our goals of being a place of open hearts and warm welcome.
