In a pre-Purim Salon special, Rabbi Jeremy will be in conversation with Professor Rhiannon Graybill, W.J Millard Professor of Religion at Rhodes College.

Together, they will explore the dynamics between biblical accounts and modern sexual politics.

Dr Graybill is the W.J. Millard Professor of Religion at Rhodes College (Memphis, Tennessee). She’s written extensively on sexuality and gender in the Bible and is the author of Texts after Terror: Rape, Sexual Violence, and the Hebrew Bible (OUP, 2021). We’ll look at the ‘fuzzy, messy and icky’ business of Ester’s relationship with her uncle and her King. Expect both a conversation that asks what this, and other, Biblical accounts can teach us about contemporary sexual politics, as well as what contemporary sexual politics can teach about reading the Bible.
