Shema Koleinu: the Home of Masorti Prayer

UK Jewry has a rich musical-liturgical heritage which has developed over 400 years, combining diverse traditions of immigrants from Spain, Germany, Poland, North-Africa and the Middle East. These traditions continue to be supplemented by local creativity. This heritage includes prayers, poems, melodies and rituals used in daily prayer and life-cycle events.

Shema Koleinu, the new Masorti Prayer website, captures that tradition and makes it accessible. Its purpose is to develop the skills of leaders and participants in local Jewish communities. It seeks to preserve a rich tradition and to pass it on.  The hope is that it deepens understanding, engenders a sense of spirituality and fosters community.

Want to learn a new prayer or melody? Want to know how to and why we do it like that? www.masortiprayer.org.uk hosts our musical and liturgical traditions and explains the choreography used in daily prayer, home rituals and lifecycle events.  Find the melodies, liturgy and explanations you need to enrich your Jewish journey and to deepen your ability to connect with our tradition.

The site is in development and your feedback is welcome as reordings and materials continue to be created and uploaded. Email rivka@masorti.org.uk
